The Redlands Westpac Art Prize celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2010 with the appointment of a new curator Lindy Lee, herself one of Australia’s foremost contemporary artists and winner of the Prize in 1998.

As curator, Lindy has selected 18 of Australia’s leading contemporary visual artists to present new or recent works for the exhibition. Continuing the unique model of the Redlands Westpac Art Prize, each of the selected artists in turn were asked to invite an ‘emerging’ artist to show alongside in the exhibition. In this way the Prize offers valuable exposure to a range of exciting new artists whose work may not be as widely known as that of the exhibiting established artists.

The Prize covers a wide range of artistic mediums placing no limitations on the works that artists submit. The artworks presented are expected to span painting, photography, installation, sculpture, film and new media works.

A total prize pool of $31,000 is offered across three categories of Main Prize, Emerging Artist Prize and Viewer’s Choice. The winners of the first two categories are judged by a panel of leading contemporary visual art commentators including Wayne Tunnicliffe, Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of NSW and Reuben Keehan of Artspace.

The exhibition offers visitors to the gallery the chance to acquire works by some of Australia’s leading contemporary artists as well as those who are at the early stages of their careers. All art works presented in the Prize are available for purchase with the exception of the two winning works which are automatically acquired by Redlands School to form part of their permanent collection.
