FX Harsono has been a leading figure in the Indonesian contemporary art scene over the past four decades and throughout his career has become widely known for creating compelling artworks examining his complex cultural identity as part of the minority Tionghoa (Chinese Indonesian) community in Indonesia. Writing in the Rain, (2011) is a powerful meditation on inter-generational trauma, loss, remembrance and the endurance of personal and cultural identity.
