Mosman Art Gallery has an exciting opportunity to acquire the work of renowned contemporary artist Imants Tillers, and we invite you to join this acquisition journey.

In 2022 we celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Balnaves Gift and to continue the inspiring legacy of the late Neil Balnaves AO, we are launching a new Fund to acquire and commission works for the Mosman Art Collection. To launch the Fund, Mosman Art Gallery has identified the acquisition of a major work by the artist Imants Tillers.

Imants is a key figure in Australian art, having lived and worked in Mosman for a large portion of his life, with many of his works of and about Mosman. Place and landscape are central to Imants' work, with images of landscape overlaid with text, often poetry or references to the cultural history of a site. Factum I, 2021 references Arthur Streeton's painting From my camp (Sirius Cove), 1896 and denotes Imants' strong connection to the artistic heritage of Mosman. The painting will bring the Mosman Art Collection a unique and contemporary voice.

In celebration of the first acquisition, we are delighted to announce that Mosman Art Gallery will be holding a survey exhibition of Imants' work in 2024, in which Factum I will feature. Together, with your support to the acquisition fund, we will continue to enrich the cultural life of Mosman for generations to come.
