“Portico is informed by time spent in Tuscany, where I made a series of watercolour studies looking through deeply recessed windows towards the surrounding landscape. Visits to the frescoes of Piero della Francesca in Arezzo and the Morandi Museum in Bologna shaped my thinking during this period.
Back in the studio, the painting evolved from direct observation into something less fixed. Drawing on memory, sensation, and remembered forms, Portico reflects my interest in how experiences of place are transformed through painting.”
