Join us to mark the exhibition in its final weeks. This public program will allow audiences to understand the ideas behind the work with an ‘In Conversation’ between Curator Kelly McDonald and artist Khaled Sabsabi, a musical performance on the Kanun by Tarik Hussein and poetry reading by author Omar Sakr. There will be tea, coffee and sweets.

Tarik Hussein began his musical journey at the age of six with the piano and Spanish guitar. The Kanun is Tarik's totem instrument. Tarik began teaching music in 2010 and founded Hira Music School in 2022, which has allowed Tarik to share his passion for spiritually grounded music with his community.

Omar Sakr is the son of Arab and Turkish Muslim migrants. He is the author of three poetry collections, including The Lost Arabs (UQP), which won the 2020 Prime Minister's Literary Award for Poetry, and a novel, Son of Sin (Affirm Press, 2022). His latest book is Non-Essential Work. He lives and works on Dharug land, where he was born and raised.
