Mosman Youth Art Prize 2017 – Conditions of Entry
ABOUT THE PRIZE
The Mosman Youth Art Prize is an annual exhibition organised by Mosman Council which features the diverse talents of young, aspiring and emerging artists aged between 12 and 21 years. It was initiated in 1988 by the internationally renowned artist and local resident Ken Done AM.
Mosman Council and Mosman Art Gallery acknowledge Audi Centre Mosman as the gold sponsor of the Mosman Youth Art Prize. Council would like to thank the following silver sponsors for their generous support: Julian Ashton Art School, the National Art School, Fourth Village Providore and Northshore School of Art. Council also acknowledges the kind support of the Australian Watercolour Institute, Mosman Art Society, Friends of Mosman Art Gallery, and the Rotary Club of Mosman.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Maximum of two entries per artist. Entry form must be completed online (enter here) and two printed copies are to be submitted with the artwork on the day of receipting (Monday 13 March 8.30am-6pm).
1. ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to all young artists from 12 to 21 years of age (excluding primary school children).
There are three sections:
(A) Junior 12 to 14 years
(B) Senior 15 to 17 years
(C ) Tertiary 18 to 21 years
HSC major works are eligible. Any Mosman Councillor, Mosman Council staff and members of their immediate families are ineligible.
2. MEDIA CATEGORIES
Submitted artworks can be in a range of media including; drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture/installation, textile, video
3. SIZE/WEIGHT
The maximum size/weight of an artwork is:
> 2 sq metres for two-dimensional works (inc. frame).
eg 1.50m × 1.33m = 2sq metres
eg 2.00m × 1.00m = 2sq metres
> 40kg maximum weight, any medium.
4. PRESENTATION OF WORK
The following methods are acceptable:
1) Professionally framed, including mount board under glass,
2) Works on canvas may be mounted on a stretcher frame,
3) Works on paper (e.g. drawing or prints) without frames must be mounted on foam-core (an art cardboard available from art supply shops).
4) Video must be 10 minutes maximum on DVD only
No unprotected glass edges or wet paintings will be accepted. Works may be rejected due to poor presentation. All entries should be clearly labelled on the back with title, price (if for sale), category entered (A, B or C), name of artist, address and telephone number.
5. ENTRY FEE
An entry fee of $7.50 (inc. GST) is payable for each art work entered. Artists may submit a maximum of 2 artworks. A separate entry form is required for each entry. If artwork is not selected for exhibition, the entry fee is NOT refundable.
6. JUDGING
The adjudicator will be Cara Macleod, Manager, Student and Teacher Engagement, Museum of Contemporary Art.
The adjudicator's decision will be final and no subsequent discussion will be entered into.
7. PRIZES
Over $14,000 of cash prizes, scholarships and art materials will be awarded.
8. SALE OF WORKS
All works shall be for sale unless marked Not for Sale.
A commission of 33.3% will be deducted by Mosman Council from the selling price of each work sold.
9. RECEIPT OF ENTRIES
Entries will be received at Mosman Art Gallery, cnr Art Gallery Way and Myahgah Rd, Mosman on Monday 13 March between 8.30am and 6.00pm.
PLEASE DO NOT ATTACH ENTRY FORM TO ARTWORK BUT PRESENT TWO COPIES SEPARATELY ON RECEIPTING DAY.
10. NON-SELECTED WORKS
Selected entries will appear on the Gallery website by 5pm Thursday 16 March. Unsuccessful entries must be collected from Mosman Art Gallery Friday 17 March, Monday 20 March – Wednesday 22 March 10am – 5pm. Works not collected at this time can only be collected by making an appointment with the Gallery administrator on (02) 9978 4178. Works not collected by 21 April may be disposed of.
11. AWARD PRESENTATIONS
The Award Presentations function will be held at the Mosman Art Gallery on Friday 31 March at 6.30pm. Entry will be $8 per person, $6 concession, $20 per family. FREE entry to exhibited artists.
Entrants short listed to win a prize will be notified and are required to attend the Awards Presentation.
12. EXHIBITION OF ARTWORKS
The exhibition will be held at Mosman Art Gallery, Cnr Art Gallery Way and Myahgah Road, Mosman.
All works must remain in the exhibition until it finishes on 13 April. The exhibition will be open to the public from Saturday 25 March to Thursday 13 April during the following times: 7 Days, 10am to 5pm.
13. COLLECTION OF EXHIBITED ENTRIES
Entries can be collected from 10.00am – 5.00pm Tuesday 18 to Friday 21 April at Mosman Art Gallery. Works not collected at this time can only be collected by making an appointment with the Gallery administrator on (02) 9978 4178. Works not collected by Friday 5 May will be disposed of.
14. CARE AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Mosman Art Gallery will exercise all reasonable care with the works submitted for this exhibition. However, it does not insure them against damage or theft, this is the responsibility of the artist.
15. MOSMAN COUNCIL PRIVACY
MANAGEMENT PLAN
The personal details requested on this form are being collected, and will only be used for the purpose of processing your application, keeping records, & establishing your identity in accordance with Mosman Council's Privacy Management Plan (August 2000). Access to the information is restricted to Council Officers and other authorised people.
16. INTERPRETATION OF THE RULES
In the event of a dispute regarding the interpretation of the rules and conditions, the decision of the Council shall be binding on all parties.
