The Cube: Remy Faint
In this exhibition for The Cube, contemporary artist Remy Faint engages with the interplay of silhouettes and transparency, where memory, materiality, and abstraction intersect. Reflecting on globally diverse interpretations of the ‘archive’ through personal references tied to Remy’s Chinese heritage, the work presents a fragmented and speculative dialogue between past and present. Suspended in a space across a range of materialities, the installation invites contemplation on how we reinterpret and reimagine the past.
Layered architectural interventions reminiscent of veils or curtains act as both thresholds and surfaces. Using silk as a primary painting and sculptural material, the installation also includes diverse material palette—ranging from ceramic components to synthetic or fabricated fragments fabric assemblages. Silk-based paintings and dyed fabrics are layered with forms of opaque, gestural surfaces. Together, these forms coalesce into a speculative archive—neither fixed nor resolved, but unfolding as a constellation of imagined materialities and histories.
