Mosman Council has benefited from generous donations to its art collection for many years.
After the Mosman Art Gallery was created in late 1998 artists, private collectors, institutions, galleries and Friends of the Mosman Art Gallery, have further contributed artworks to the Mosman Art Collection.
This exhibition highlights works from a selection of donations made between 2004 and 2011. Works from the collection include those never exhibited in the Gallery before such as lithographic nudes by John Brack donated in 2010 and two early works by renowned Australian abstractionist Michael Johnson.
Artists from the collecton who are either from the Mosman area or have produced artworks relevant to the region, include: Anthony Dattilo Rubbo, Salvatore Zofrea, Julian Twigg, Ruth Faeber, Julie Harris, Norman Hetherington and Ken Done.
A recent donation also includes a large collection of prints by indigeneous artists from Arnham Land and Western Australia featuring totems, hunting and body art imagery and designs. Artworks by distinguished artists Banduk Marika, Philip Gudthaykudthay and Johnny Bulunbulun are included.
