“This work depicts my immediate family unit of three members: mother, father, and son. Originally painted in 2018, I was never happy with the outcome and chose to repaint the work in 2025 for the exhibition Liz & Emma at the artist-run gallery Sydenham International.
I much prefers the repainted version. The original had a certain flatness to its finish; in the new version, I’ve employed the technique of glazing, using thinner layers of paint to build up the surface. This has resulted in a work with a greater sense of depth and gravity, more fitting to its subject.”
