With a strong formalist aesthetic sensibility, and utilising various techniques, McLuckie’s practice adopts meticulous processes and strategies of appropriation to explore Modernism’s canonised movements and their enduring narratives in relation to the mythology, history, and ritual of making.
Every Robert Eggers Film is a synthetic polymer painting based on Henri Matisse’s 1906 painting The Young Sailor II (Collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York).
The work continues the artist’s exploration of the proposed fallacy of originality, particularly in relation to Modernism’s myth of the singular creative genius. It aims to challenge this enduring narrative by investigating the dynamics of influence and inheritance, and notions of authenticity and invention.
