“In Home, I consider the material to hold memory. The painting is made using an angle grinder to shave down the hessian fibres, creating a subtle grid-like surface reminiscent of the patterns seen on football pitches. The angle grinder is an aggressive and unforgiving tool, so the process demands time, care, and precision.
The tension between the harshness of the tool and the unpredictable, loose weave of the hessian creates a balance of strength and fragility. The painting holds the traces of its own making, with each mark embedded within the material. It is then held within a frame, suggesting how support structures can hold us together, even in moments of vulnerability.”
