material immortality 18 explores ideas of transformation by incorporating materials that embody vast temporal scales. The chalk found in these paintings is formed from the accumulated skeletons and shells of microscopic plankton that settled on the ocean floor during the Cretaceous Period, approximately 145 million years ago.
Equally significant are the synthetic fabric remnants from my children’s clothes, which form the textured surface of the work and serve as markers of time, both geologic and far-future.
