“This work brings together science fiction and my connection to Country, imagining landscapes where memory, spirit, and possibility coexist. The landscape is inhabited by shadows, watching eyes, and unseen presences, while the portal suspended in the sky reflects Country through a spiral that invites viewers to imagine an alternative reality.
As a Butchulla and Burmese artist, I often explore the idea of “futures lost” through the ongoing impacts of disconnection from Country, culture, and ancestral knowledge. This painting considers what might be reclaimed through acts of remembering and reimagining, proposing speculative futures that remain grounded in place while opening space for hope, resilience, and renewal.”
