This painting is from a series of landscapes primarily focused on capturing the emotional nature of a place through colour, light and simplified shape. The grounds of the Concord mental Hospital, Rivendell is a place that holds distant personal memories for the artist. The large estate has always had a distinct atmosphere, possibly due to its long standing historical buildings and established gardens. Through her paintings, the artist explores the gestural mark, harmony, emotion, shape and space whilst also looking again at the genre and history of landscape painting.
