Image-making has the capacity to reawaken things that are long gone. Angus Hamra has been making work about buildings in Melbourne’s CBD that have been demolished and forgotten by history. He regards old photographs and film as “stale documents.” In Southern Cross, the act of painting seeks to revive what is lost, bringing it into the present.
