Nicole Zhang’s practice draws upon the vernacular of modern and contemporary figurative painting, mining and reimagining everyday personal narratives while documenting the figure within the physical and psychological spaces they navigate. The work positions the everyday as a crucible of formation, a site that manifests emotional and spiritual experiences through mundane rituals and daily encounters.
The Seeking draws upon a memory of a fountain, interpreting it as both an aesthetic object that serves as a source of inspiration and as a site of chaos and tension, where symmetry and asymmetry, the organic and inorganic, and structure and spontaneity coexist.
