“For this piece, I used a photo from an old home movie as a reference. I love that the swimmer’s features remain blurred, drenched in afternoon light. She is captured mid-swim, in a moment of equilibrium, surrounded by an eddy of her own making.
As an artist, I am often drawn to portraiture with a focus on realism and detail. However, for this painting, I intentionally adopted a freer, more impressionistic approach, applying ragged brushstrokes and leaving areas unresolved. For me, this work was an exercise in both freedom and restraint”.
