As the seventh work in the Sons of Men series, Where Shall We Go From Here explores the instability of collective memory and the narratives attached to anonymous images. Rendered in a restrained palette, a group of men stand before a wall fragmented by geometric fields of colour, creating a tension between documentary realism and contemporary abstraction.
Their expressions resist easy categorisation, while their rigid alignment against the wall introduces a subtle sense of unease. Rather than reconstructing a specific historical moment, the painting examines how images are continually reinterpreted through shifting cultural, political, and personal frameworks. By withholding a definitive narrative, it invites viewers to project their own experiences onto the image, foregrounding the ambiguities and contradictions through which meaning is constructed. What emerges is not a fixed historical account but an open field of interpretation.
