Not a Proppa Aborigine is an exhibition celebrating the acclaimed work of contemporary urban Aboriginal artist, Adam Hill. It is a mid-career survey exhibition presenting a series of works from over ten years of the artist’s professional art practice.

Hill is known for his powerful works which are firmly located within the tradition of urban Aboriginal Art, and engage directly with the political conditions of Australia’s contemporary Indigenous society. A central issue examined in the exhibition is the notion of authenticity and what this means in the context of contemporary Indigenous society.

Adam Hill – Not a Proppa Aborigine is the first solo exhibition of a NSW Indigenous Australian artist to be held at Mosman Art Gallery. The exhibition will form an appropriate acknowledgement of Adam Hill’s artistic achievements as well as his role as a leader within the arts community of New South Wales.

Hill is primarily known as a painter, however his oeuvre is diverse, encompassing sculpture, photography and community cultural devlopment projects. The survey will reveal the breadth and development of Hill’s creative practice from the early years of stylized mural design through to refined and compelling contemporary works. The exhibition positions Adam Hill as one of Australia’s most talented contemporary Indigenous artists.
