An exhibition that examines the influence of Australia’s proximity to and relationship with Asia, and its impact on our economy, politics and all aspects of our culture.

This exhibition brings together fourteen of China and Australia’s most significant contemporary artists including Guan Wei, Kate Beynon and Guo Jian.

Curated by Chinese artist Jin Sha, the artists explore the implications of finding ones self ‘midway’ between cultures through drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and ceramics. Other themes explored include the culture clash between traditional and contemporary society and the impact of globalisation on cultural life and identity.

Five of the artists are Chinese nationals living and working in China, four are Chinese-born artists living and working in Australia, and five identify themselves as Australian artists whose work has been closely informed by Chinese culture.
